Annual Litter Index
Greensboro Beautiful conducts its annual Litter Index in each of Greensboro's five City Council Districts. Each of the five districts is scored based on a visual assessment. Volunteers to assist in the scoring process are needed. Orientation, training and refreshments provided. Call 373-2199 to volunteer.

"Growing the Green Way" Program: Grow Your Own Small Fruits at Home
If dreams of fresh strawberries and plump raspberries are dancing in your head, why not make those dreams come true in your own backyard? With just a little know-how, these small fruits are easy to produce at home.

"Growing the Green Way” Program: Carolina Landscapes - CYN
Learn how to design, install and maintain a Carolina yard, one that works with our environment rather than against it. Learn design principles, proper site and plant selection, soils and bed preparation along with pest control.

"Living the Wildlife” Program: Poisonous or Not? – Busting the Snake and Spider Myths of NC
Have you ever been gardening and put your hands on a large hairy spider in a wood shed or brush pile? Is it a harmless wolf spider or a dangerous brown recluse? Were you raised to kill a snake on sight "just to be safe," in case it is poisonous? Let us show you the truth about the snakes and spiders of NC. Learn the telltale signs that will help you identify a poisonous snake or spider vs. a harmless one. You will have the chance to see and handle some of the snakes that are most commonly (and unfairly) mistaken for dangerous ones. We will also cover what to do if you are bitten by a snake or spider.

"Growing the Green Way" Program: Be Healthy, Grow What You Eat
Learn about growing conditions, how to prepare soil, the selection of vegetable varieties for the Piedmont, how to design an efficient, space-saving raised bed, and how to identify and control insects and diseases organically.

"Growing the Green Way" Program: An All Natural Easter
Organic dyes made from vegetables and herbs give rich, earthy colors to eggs. To celebrate spring, many ancient cultures dyed eggs and gave them as gifts. Our ancestors however did not use dye tablets that fizzed! They colored their eggs with dyes made from materials found in nature. We will provide the eggs and the basket as well as the dye material.

"Living the Wildlife" Program: Wildlife Control in your Backyard
We'll teach you to identify the type of culprit responsible for the damage and the best method for handling each. Safety and legal issues regarding wildlife control will also be addressed.

Greensboro Beautiful needs volunteers to roll up their sleeves, grab a bag, and help clean up litter from our streets, parks, streams, and public areas. Pizza and drinks are provided to all volunteers following the cleanup. Advance Registration Required. Call 373-2199 to sign up.

Join us for a class on old and new methods for preventing wildlife damage to your garden, home, and sanity.

Insects, diseases and weeds in the home landscape can cause many problems including interfering with growth of the desirable landscape plants. Learn to identify the top ten pests and the best means by which to manage them. Cost: $5 per person

"Living the Wild Life" Program: Birding in Summer
We will talk about the types of foods available to birds in the summer, and plants you can place in your garden to attract a variety of birds. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn to use binoculars to better view birds from a distance.

We'll recreate the sights, scenes, and smells of a spring afternoon in Paris - all in our own Bicentennial Garden. Sidewalk artists, live music, a sidewalk café, children's activities, a poodle parade, and more will be featured - all within the colorful backdrop of the garden in bloom.
